The journey time could take anywhere between 1 to 2 hours depending on the vessel used, loading and sea conditions.

The introduction of the Quickcat in 1986 brought Waiheke much closer to Auckland City with an initial crossing time of 30 minutes. This was later increased to 35 minutes to reduce the wake created as the Quickcat arrived in Auckland City. Nevertheless the true commuter age had arrived.

During the first few years of service the Quickcat was the only "fast ferry" providing Waiheke service. The older slower boats filled in if the Quickcat was out of service and for peak commuter services.
On the morning of the 4th of January 2005 at around 10.35a.m. five people were injured in a collision between a small charter fishing boat and the QUICKCAT. The 6.5-metre charter boat DR. HOOK and QUICKCAT collided in the Motuihe Channel, which separates Motutapu and Motuihe Islands,

The injured, from the pleasure craft, were transferred to the ferry. The Westpac rescue helicopter flew two of these people to hospital. Three other people with minor injuries were taken ashore from the ferry by the Police launch DEODAR 2 for medical treatment. The charter boat was holed on her port bow, and was towed in by a Coastguard rescue vessel. QUICKCAT continued her voyage to Waiheke Island.
The Wanderer is a fast ferry owned by Fullers Auckland and used on mostly as a Tourist and Sightseeing boat on the Harbour Cruise and Rangitoto Island Ferry. She is also sometimes used on the Northcote/Birkenhead service. Wanderer is rarely seen on the ferry service to Waiheke Island, however if Fullers has limited capacity then Wanderer is used as backup. Wanderer is also used alongside larger sister Adventurer on the Birkenhead and Half Moon Bay ferry services.

== History ==

Fullers purchased the Wanderer II in late 2007 from World Heritage Cruises in Strahan Tasmania for NZ$2m. She was purchased a year after Fullers bought sister ship Adventurer from World Heritage Cruises. Along with Adventurer she provided much needed extra capacity on the Waiheke Island and North Shore ferry services.
Fullers have removed the II and the ferry is now simply known as the Wanderer.
Starflyte is a Ferry operated by Fullers Group. She was built in 1999. She is used mostly on the Waiheke and Half Moon Bay ferry services.
She carries approximately 290 passengers, meaning she is not quite big enough for the Waiheke Commuter runs although she is regularly used on the off peak runs especially around midday. She is also used alongside Jet Raider when the bigger boats are out of service. She is one of Fullers most hardworking boats and is also used on the Devonport run.
== History ==
