* Mondays 6:30 - 8pm: Crash Course: Chris Martenson’s “Crash Course” is a series of videos which serves as a clear and straightforward explanation of how our economy, energy systems and environment interact, how we got to where we are today, and some reasonable expectations for the future. The July sessions will be shown in the Theatre foyer on four successive Monday evenings from the 5th until the 26th of July from 6:30-8pm. A repeat of the series will run from the 9th to 30th of August. There is no charge for the course; we do ask, however, that people choose a month when they can attend all four sessions. * Tuesdays 3:30 - 8pm: Dramability: Cindy Peterken will be taking groups through drama classes that will include theatre games, improvisation, devising, script work, creating a character, stage fighting, mask work and more. Students must enrol for a term of lessons, and are encouraged to commit to a year's attendance to allow for more exciting planning. Each term will have a different focus and there will be at least one evening performance to put skills into practice. All students should arrive 5min before the start of the lesson and wear suitable loose clothing for moving around freely and there will be some floor work -- so no best clothes, please! Bring only a dollop of enthusiasm and a sense of humour. 6-8yo: 3:30 - 4:15; 9-13yo: 4:45 - 5:45; 14-18yo: 6:30-8:00. Artworks Community Theatre and Robert Mignault are proud to be running a youth workshop during the July school vacation aimed at developing performance skills and creative approaches for making new theatre. The workshop will run from Monday 12th to Friday 16th July, with a workshop performance on Saturday 17th July. It is open to youth and young adults aged 15 to 30 with a strong desire to participate and a willingness to engage in the creative process with others. The fee for the whole course will be $100. Chroma Lab will be an exploration of new ways of making theatre in our modern world. By using various technical and digital tools such as video, web cams, projections and video mixing, it will be about creating unique stories and telling them in unique ways. [[Artworks]] Community Theatre is not simply a performing arts theatre; it is a community-owned, volunteer-run, multi-purpose venue which is able to be claimed as "home" for a variety of Waiheke groups. The Snug is a relaxed and intimate venue with couches and comfortable seating for up to 20 people, and is ideal for poetry recitals, book clubs, study groups, club meetings, etc. The Auditorium (includes the stage) may be hired separately for larger group activities and performing arts, or may be hired along with the Snug for exclusive use.

The Theatre has a licensed café and EFTPOS facilities available for special events.

We have brought new energy and enthusiasm to the Theatre with an incorporated society as the administrative structure so that many hands can make light work. This ensures the brightest of futures for our wonderful community asset. The Society has been operating the Theatre since 2008 and always welcomes new members. If you're into performing, children's theatre, lighting, direction/production, set design or construction, sound, front of house, administration, makeup and wardrobe, backstage, special effects, or providing that essential component of performing arts — the audience! — get in touch with your name, edress and phone number, and we'll add you as a Friend of Artworks Theatre. There is no subscription to join the Society, so feel free!

[[Artworks]] Community Theatre is not simply a performing arts theatre; it is a community-owned, volunteer-run, multi-purpose venue which is able to be claimed as "home" for a variety of Waiheke groups. The Snug is a relaxed and intimate venue with couches and comfortable seating for up to 20 people, and is ideal for poetry recitals, book clubs, study groups, club meetings, etc. The Auditorium (includes the stage) may be hired separately for larger group activities and performing arts, or may be hired along with the Snug for exclusive use.

The Theatre has a licensed Café and EFTPOS facilities available for special events.

We have brought new energy and enthusiasm to the Theatre with an incorporated society as the administrative structure so that many hands can make light work. This ensures the brightest of futures for our wonderful community asset. The Society has been operating the Theatre since 2008 and always welcomes new members. Gary and I have decided to lead the charge, take to the lovely streets and lanes of this country, the pubs and clubs where people know each other and demonstrate that in the words of one of our great prophets, Fred Dagg : that “we don’t know how lucky we are!” Gary McCormick and Mayor Tim are celebrating over 80 shows around New Zealand over the last three years. “We have always specialized in local community venues where you can go to and fro with the people in the audience. Artworks Theatre is one of those places.” Gary McCormick has long been the spokesperson for the Kiwi Bloke, pointing out that you have a much better chance of survival in New Zealand if you are a giant snail, a giant squid or a great white shark than if you are a Kiwi male. [[Artworks]] Community Theatre is not simply a performing arts theatre; it is a community-owned, volunteer-run, multi-purpose venue which is able to be claimed as "home" for a variety of Waiheke groups. The Snug is a relaxed and intimate venue with couches and comfortable seating for up to 20 people, and is ideal for poetry recitals, book clubs, study groups, club meetings, etc. The Auditorium (includes the stage) may be hired separately for larger group activities and performing arts, or may be hired along with the Snug for exclusive use.

The Theatre has a licensed Café and EFTPOS facilities available for special events.

We have brought new energy and enthusiasm to the Theatre with an incorporated society as the administrative structure so that many hands can make light work. This ensures the brightest of futures for our wonderful community asset. The Society has been operating the Theatre since 2008 and always welcomes new members. This is an homage to the Maori entertainers of our past, by bringing their stories of the showband era back to life for audiences young and old so that they can experience (or relive) such an important part of our Maori entertainment history. Many Islanders make their living from it, and it has an impact on everything from the price of houses to the frequency of buses. Last year, researchers from the University of Auckland surveyed 3,600 visitors to Waiheke, providing us with in-depth knowledge of how this industry is developing. The new Super City will, no doubt, have its views on how Waiheke can be developed as a tourist destination. We are not the first island in the world to be facing these issues. The Snug is a relaxed and intimate venue with couches and comfortable seating for up to 20 people, and is ideal for poetry recitals, book clubs, study groups, club meetings, etc. The Auditorium (includes the stage) may be hired separately for larger group activities and performing arts, or may be hired along with the Snug for exclusive use.

The Theatre has a licensed Café and EFTPOS facilities available for special events.

We have brought new energy and enthusiasm to the Theatre with an incorporated society as the administrative structure so that many hands can make light work. This ensures the brightest of futures for our wonderful community asset. The Society has been operating the Theatre since 2008 and always welcomes new members. [[Artworks]] Community Theatre is not simply a performing arts theatre; it is a community-owned, volunteer-run, multi-purpose venue which is able to be claimed as "home" for a variety of Waiheke groups. The Snug is a relaxed and intimate venue with couches and comfortable seating for up to 20 people, and is ideal for poetry recitals, book clubs, study groups, club meetings, etc. The Auditorium (includes the stage) may be hired separately for larger group activities and performing arts, or may be hired along with the Snug for exclusive use.

The Theatre has a licensed Café and EFTPOS facilities available for special events.

We have brought new energy and enthusiasm to the Theatre with an incorporated society as the administrative structure so that many hands can make light work. This ensures the brightest of futures for our wonderful community asset. The Society has been operating the Theatre since 2008 and always welcomes new members. If you're into performing, children's theatre, lighting, direction/production, set design or construction, sound, front of house, administration, makeup and wardrobe, backstage, special effects, or providing that essential component of performing arts — the audience! — get in touch with your name, edress and phone number, and we'll add you as a Friend of Artworks Theatre. Artworks Waiheke Island is a community arts and cultural centre in [[Oneroa]], developed from what was once a Mitre 10 timber outlet owned by [[Tony Pope]]. It was bought by [[Auckland City Council]] in 2003 for $2 million. The Mitre 10 branch was moved to [[Ostend]] and subsequently changed to a [[Placemakers]] store.

Artworks over the years has served as a great community asset and arts and cultural hub.

Among its facilities are the [[Waiheke Library]], the [[Waiheke Community Art Gallery]], the [[Waiheke Community Cinema]], [[Artworks Theatre]], [[Waiheke Radio]], [[Ajadz]] Indian restaurant, Tanya Batt's [[Once Upon an Island]] Story Centre, the office of the [[Waste Resource Trust]], the Waiheke Visitor Information Centre and [[Whittaker's Musical Experience]].

In November 2008 a draft strategic plan for the site was released with the vision proposed to be:

"an arts and cultural centre that serves the local community and reflects Waiheke Island's unique identity, by providing a place for the exchange of ideas and community participation in a range of activities".

The plan sets out five strategic objectives:

* continuing to develop Artworks as an arts and cultural centre that reflects, and is supported by the local community
* supporting the local community by providing opportunities for their participation in arts and cultural activities
* attracting visitors through arts and cultural activities
* recognising and promoting Artworks as part of council's network of facilities and venues
* maximising opportunities for integration between Artworks and the new Waiheke community library.

The draft will become final mid 2009 where action points and development plans will be implemented.

[[Artworks]] Community Theatre is not simply a performing arts theatre; it is a community-owned, volunteer-run, multi-purpose venue which is able to be claimed as "home" for a variety of Waiheke groups. The Snug is a relaxed and intimate venue with couches and comfortable seating for up to 20 people, and is ideal for poetry recitals, book clubs, study groups, club meetings, etc. The Auditorium (includes the stage) may be hired separately for larger group activities and performing arts, or may be hired along with the Snug for exclusive use.

The Theatre has a licensed Café and EFTPOS facilities available for special events.

We have brought new energy and enthusiasm to the Theatre with an incorporated society as the administrative structure so that many hands can make light work. Waiheke Spiritual Cinema Circle is a group of people who get together every month for an offering of films from all over the world that explore the questions of who we are, why we're here and where we're going with a focus on inspiring, enthusing and entertaining you — and fundraising for Island causes at the same time.

Spiritual Cinema evenings are held on the last Wednesday of each month at [[Waiheke Community Cinema]], starting at 7:30pm, and are sponsored by [[Waiheke Wellness]], Auckland City and the Cinema.

Entry is by donation ($10 suggested) or by koha, and proceeds go to a different community group every month.

Screenings are restricted to Cinema Circle members: you can join at the door (annual sub of $2).

This extraordinary multi-layered film features a myth told through stop-motion animation with puppets designed by internationally acclaimed artists and voiced by three iconic actors, Tim Curry, Mark Hamill and Lance Henriksen. BROWN, major New Zealand art historian and artist, will sign his new book of essays on his friend, great 20thc New Zealand artist Colin McCahon: Towards a Promised Land, Auckland University Press, 2010 Gordon is a long-time Waiheke resident. He is the author of numerous important studies on New Zealand art, the curator of many exhibitions and has been director of several major New Zealand arts institutions.

Kevin Timm is South African-born and brings to his music a spaciousness reminiscent of the vast African veldt. [[Artworks]] Community Theatre is not simply a performing arts theatre; it is a community-owned, volunteer-run, multi-purpose venue which is able to be claimed as "home" for a variety of Waiheke groups. The Snug is a relaxed and intimate venue with couches and comfortable seating for up to 20 people, and is ideal for poetry recitals, book clubs, study groups, club meetings, etc. The Auditorium (includes the stage) may be hired separately for larger group activities and performing arts, or may be hired along with the Snug for exclusive use.

The Theatre has a licensed Café and EFTPOS facilities available for special events.

We have brought new energy and enthusiasm to the Theatre with an incorporated society as the administrative structure so that many hands can make light work. This ensures the brightest of futures for our wonderful community asset. The Society has been operating the Theatre since 2008 and always welcomes new members. Each term will have a different focus and there will be at least one evening performance to put skills into practice. Waiheke Earth Cinema Circle (an offshoot of [[Spiritual Cinema]] Circle) is a group of people who get together for an offering of films from all over the world that explore the natural world — and fundraise for Island causes at the same time.

Earth Cinema evenings are held on the second Wednesday of every even month at [[Waiheke Community Cinema]] and are sponsored by [[Waiheke Wellness]] and the Cinema.

Entry is by donation ($10 suggested) or by koha, and proceeds go to a different community group every month. Screenings are restricted to Cinema Circle members, and you can join at the door (annual sub of $2).

7:42 Soil in Good Heart: This film connects us to the heart of the matter of organic farming – the soil itself. Can we re-generate strong, healthy soil using only organic compounds? 8:00 Children of the Amazon: This feature-length documentary takes us on a journey through time. Director Denise Zmekhol returns to the Brazilian Amazon to find the children who she had taken pictures of 15 years earlier, only to find a completely changed culture. We learn the history of the region and understand the events that have led these people so far, so quickly, from their origins. In the end, there is hope — huge progress has been made in preserving the lands and the people’s way of life. 9:15 A Thousand Suns: This is the story of the Gamo Highlands of the African Rift Valley and the unique worldview held by the people of the region. This isolated area has remained remarkably intact both biologically and culturally. It is one of the most densely populated rural regions of Africa yet its people have been farming sustainably for 10,000 years. Shot in Ethiopia, New York and Kenya, the film explores the modern world's untenable sense of separation from and superiority over nature and how the interconnected worldview of the Gamo people is fundamental in achieving long-term sustainability, both in the region and beyond.
