St John's Ambulance held a fundraising mid-winter swim at Little Oneroa Bay on 21 June 2009. Hundreds of people attended and dozens went into the water.
The fundraiser was part of a project to raise $12,000 for a lifesaving training manikin which will be used to teach people how to monitor vital signs, including heart and respiration rates and blood pressure. It will also be used to practice giving injections and inserting intravenous lines.source:Waiheke Marketplace, 17 June 2009, page 7
