An island identity and member of a well-known Waiheke family, Blake Scott is also a remarkable survivor. A successful commercial fisherman, Blake was fixing up a boat in 2001 when he fell six metres, landing head-first. His left side paralysed, he spent months on life support, spending periods unconscious.
After a long rehabilitation, Blake was released from care but continued to push himself in a determined effort to recover and return to the boating he missed. In 2002 he moved back to his childhood island of Waiheke from Invercargill. His remarkable recovery continued and included an 11km swim from Onetangi to Oneroa. In the end he returned to his beloved sea in an amphibious craft which is a regular sight at Onetangi Beach.
Blake is the son of legendary island fisherman Farley Scott and brother of charter fisherman Phil Scott.
