Peninsula Estates says its philosophy is simple: To make world-class, premium red wine that can be cellared confidently for many years.
Located on Waiheke Island and situated high on Hakaimango Point, a northern point which juts out into the Hauraki Gulf, Peninsula Estate is one New Zealand's picturesque vineyards. To the east are the sands of Oneroa Bay, to the North Rakino Island and Great Barrier, and to the west, Auckland city lies hazy in the distance, some 25km away.
Waiheke Island enjoys a warm, dry ripening season, and the combination of the maritime influence on the climate and good drainage has helped produce the wines that give the island an international reputation for cabernet varieties. Syrah is another variety growing in popularity on the island.
The Peninsula Estate vineyard was planted in 1986/87 and has seen production spanning three decades. These original plantings of cabernets sauvignon and franc, merlot and malbec, also now include chardonnay and syrah
