Tamaki Strait

Greg Treadwell, Wolfgang Fahl

Tamaki Strait is the body of water lying south of Waiheke Island, east of Motuihe Island and west of Ponui Island. A sheltered and relatively shallow part of the Hauraki Gulf, the Tamaki Strait provides good passage eastwards of Auckland to the Waiheke Channel and beyond to Coromandel Peninsula. Points of interest include Crusoe Rock (Papakohatu Island), Te Huruhi Bay, Putiki Bay, Rocky Bay, Awaawaroa Bay, Pearl Bay, Te Matuku Bay and Passage Rock. On its southern shores lie the eastern Auckland suburbs of Maraetai and Beachlands.
