Mike Morgan is one of Waiheke's many well-known artists. A long-term Rocky Bay resident, he is easily identified when out and about by his black leather peaked hat and his reluctance to wear shoes. By his own admission, as a steelworker he once looked down at his sore feet and promised them he would liberate them forever.

Mike is a celebrated surrealist painter whose work can be seen in many places around the island. He also has regular exhibitions in New York.

Although he had produced work prior to coming to live on the island, he began painting full-time only in 1991 and attracted the attention of band U2 who bought several of his paintings.
