Spiritual Cinema

Waiheke Spiritual Cinema Circle is a group of people who get together every month for an offering of films from all over the world that explore the questions of who we are, why we're here and where we're going with a focus on inspiring, enthusing and entertaining you — and fundraising for Island causes at the same time.

Spiritual Cinema evenings are held on the last Wednesday of each month at Waiheke Community Cinema and are sponsored by Waiheke Wellness and by the Cinema. Entry is by donation ($10 suggested) or by koha, and proceeds go to a different community group every month. Screenings are restricted to Cinema Circle members, and you can join at the door (annual sub of $2).

November’s films are bursting with hope for the possibility of true transformation. DEAD END JOB brings us to Abigail Slay, an obituary writer who realizes that she needs to change her solitary ways if she wants to continue on. The Australian short film BOOTH STORY offers us a moment of pure joy, surrendering to life for beauty’s sake. Our documentary this month, LAUNDRY AND TOSCA, introduces us to a very unique voice and the wonderful story of one woman’s dream. The feature film is the transcendent documentary SOUND OF THE SOUL, about the Fez Festival of World Sacred Music in Morocco. If this music doesn’t uplift and inspire, I don’t know what will! Enjoy the sounds of one world, united.
