Ongoing Events on Waiheke Island:

  • Tuesdays 3:30 - 8pm: Dramability: Cindy Peterken will be taking groups through drama classes that will include theatre games, improvisation, devising, script work, creating a character, stage fighting, mask work and more. Students must enrol for a term of lessons, and are encouraged to commit to a year's attendance to allow for more exciting planning. Each term will have a different focus and there will be at least one evening performance to put skills into practice. All students should arrive 5min before the start of the lesson and wear suitable loose clothing for moving around freely and there will be some floor work -- so no best clothes, please! Bring only a dollop of enthusiasm and a sense of humour. 6-8yo: 3:30 - 4:15; 9-13yo: 4:45 - 5:45; 14-18yo: 6:30-8:00. Upcoming Special Events:

April

  • Th29Apr - Sat01May: Ngā Manurere follows Manawa’s (Nicola Kawana) journey to reconnect with the son Morehu (Rhys Castle-Hughes in his theatrical debut) she gave up through whangāi. Supported by her closest friends Wai (newcomer Sera Henare), Rina (Lana Garland) and Jess (Renee Maihi) who are all single mothers, the women are tied together by roots and friendship; but each secretly harbors her own view on Manawa and the son to whom she is a stranger. At once funny and shocking, the play explores the everyday experience of being a solo mum with honesty and humor. It also reveals a terrible truth that exposes the danger of emotional silence. Premiere Thursday evening 8pm with mix and mingle afterwards; performances Fr 8pm, Sa2pm and Sa8pm. Tickets $20; Contact Artworks Theatre for bookings: 372-2941msg or ArtworksTheatre@gmail.com @ Artworks Community Theatre
