Waiheke Spiritual Cinema Circle is a group of people who get together every month for an offering of films from all over the world that explore the questions of who we are, why we're here and where we're going with a focus on inspiring, enthusing and entertaining you — and fundraising for Island causes at the same time.
Spiritual Cinema evenings are held on the last Wednesday of each month at Waiheke Community Cinema, starting at 7:30pm, and are sponsored by Waiheke Wellness, Auckland City and the Cinema.
Entry is by donation ($10 suggested) or by koha, and proceeds go to a different community group every month.
Screenings are restricted to Cinema Circle members: you can join at the door (annual sub of $2).
November's films (on We25Nov):
7:30: Nowhere Fast: In this short film, a Manhattan man wanders through his apartment spinning his wheels. Part comedy, part commentary on not living in the present moment, Nowhere Fast is a reflection of inaction in action. [6m]
7:36: The Wake of Calum MacLeod: Calum MacLeod is a storyteller who lost his audience when his children grew up and moved away from Nova Scotia's Cape Breton. Stories can't bring back the ones you love. Or can they? [8m]
7:45: Spiritual Liberation: Experience a day in the life of Michael Bernard Beckwith, the founder/director of Agape International Spiritual Center and featured luminary in The Secret. He shares inspired solutions to the challenges of our times while awakening us to life's purpose. [60m]
8:50: Waste = Food: William McDonough (American architect/ designer) and Michael Braungart (German ecological chemist) met at a Manhattan party and haven’t stopped talking – and making the world a better place. This innovative partnership engineered the concept of cradle-to-cradle (vs cradle-to-grave) manufacturing. Modeled after nature, products are designed to be either completely recyclable or biodegradable when discarded. This film shows the ecologically inspired new industrial revolution in action. [51m]
