Spiritual Cinema

Waiheke Spiritual Cinema Circle is a group of people who get together every month for an offering of films from all over the world that explore the questions of who we are, why we're here and where we're going with a focus on inspiring, enthusing and entertaining you — and fundraising for Island causes at the same time.

Spiritual Cinema evenings are held on the last Wednesday of each month at Waiheke Community Cinema, starting at 7:30pm, and are sponsored by Waiheke Wellness, Auckland City and the Cinema.

Entry is by donation ($10 suggested) or by koha, and proceeds go to a different community group every month.

Screenings are restricted to Cinema Circle members: you can join at the door (annual sub of $2).

January's films (on We27Jan):

7:30 Tony Zoreil: Tony is a 28-year-old single who inherited a remarkable physical particularity. After he faces a string of rejections from women who can't get past his appearance, Tony wonders if he'll ever find someone who will love him the way he is. Unlike Tony, his parents are proud of being different and determined to find him a girlfriend. Will they succeed? [20m]

7:50 Pie 'n Burger: Holly Stinson waits on tables while waiting on something better to come her way. Sure enough, a mysterious stranger shows up and takes a seat in her section. His offbeat charm changes the diner for a night — but discovering his identity will change Holly's life forever. [20m]

8:15 The Shift: At the age of 68, Dr. Wayne Dyer has made his first film, an engaging exploration of our mid-life longing for more purpose and meaning. Early in life, we follow the path mapped out by ego — a path of ambition, competition and striving. At mid-life, we question the direction we're heading and yearn to find our true calling. Through the interwoven stories of a businessman, a mother and a film director, this inspiring film shows us how to find the path to our spiritual purpose and therefore our greatest joy. Previously titled, Ambition to Meaning. Starring Dyer, Portia de Rossi and Michael DeLuise. [120m]

This month’s Spiritual Cinema proceeds will go to Japheth’s Art Funds.
