Surfdale Beach is on the southern side of the island. While mostly accessed from the bottom of Lannan Road or Blake Street, a track also leads from the end of Hooks Lane to one the western, less-used part of the beach. Good swimming but only at the upper end of the tide.

The point to the right of the beach had a wharf on it for many years where the Baroona berthed from Auckland.
