For an explanation of the name Waiheke see the Waiheke Island article. On one of the Historical_Maps the name is written as WA IA KE. When you look up "wai" in the Maori dictionary you'll find as one explanation for wai ake used when the speaker cannot, or does not want to, give names ... it probably doesn't fit for this case but the thought is funny nevertheless.
