Tanya Batt is a storyteller, teacher and writer.

A self confessed story-o-phile and frock-o-holic, Tanya works through out New Zealand, Australia and the UK and has been invited to share her work in the USA, Europe and Asia. Her performance storytelling is characterized lively interaction and her use of music, movement and sumptuous frocks…..She says, “stories are her habit !”
She is the Director of the ‘Once Upon an Island’ Waiheke Festival of Story and the ‘Once Upon an Island Story Centre – a unique environment which celebrates the art of story making and telling. As a trained teacher her teaching resources in the areas of arts education are highly considered for their quality and regularly used by both practitioners and in teacher training institutes. As a writer, Tanya Batt specializes in the creation of picture books, folk collections and audio recordings for the young and young at heart. Two of her picture books have been nominated as ‘top ten children’s books’ by the New Zealand Children’s Literature Foundation. Her stories have both a magical and quirky quality. She is the developer and writer of the We Can Keep Safe, Early Childhood Child Protection Programme and currently is the author of several children’s publications and audios.
