The [http://thehandsomeproject.co.nz Handsome Project] is a community-based photographic art project launched in 2007 by Waiheke artist [[Alex Stone]]. The idea behind the project is to generate a photographic portrait of every person resident on the island - 8000 images (2006 census figure). The creative element in each photo is that it must feature something of that person's "non-writing" side, ie their left side if they are right-handed. Every islander can contribute - there is no criteria for the selection of photographer.
