For an explanation of the name Waiheke see the Waiheke Island article. On one of the Historical_Maps the name is written as WA IA KE. When you look up "wai" in the Maori dictionary you'll find as one explanation for
wai ake : used when the speaker cannot, or does not want to, give names
... it probably doesn't fit for this case but the thought is funny nevertheless.
