Orapiu, located at the eastern end of Waiheke Island, was first subdivided in 1916.
It's the largest settlement at the eastern end, has a wharf and is the starting point for the Waiheke Island Wharf to Wharf Fun Run. The famous Blue Heron Lodge, adjacent to the wharf, was closed this year (2008) and current plans include subdivision of the property.
The Orapiu Wharf has been repaired (Oct/Nov 2007). It is one stop on the ferry run between Auckland and Coromandel.
The wharf is also a popular fishing spot.
Not far from the wharf, in the middle of the Waiheke Channel, is Sunday Rock, a marked navigation hazard.
