Pakatoa Island is the most northern of three islands forming the eastern side of the Waiheke Channel, the others being Rotoroa Island and Ponui Island.

Latitude 36.79S; Longitude 175.19E

Sixty acres in area, privately-owned Pakatoa has been the site of a small holiday resort - including a nine-hole golf course - for decades. Following the elimination of rats on the island in the 1990s, the island was declared a wildlife sanctuary and kakariki were liberated. Weka have also been added to the bird population.
