The [[Waiheke Historical Society]] will sponsor a scavenger hunt on ''29-30 September 2007'' to mark Auckland Heritage WeekThe Great Waiheke Heritage Scavenger Hunt will require contestants to respond to 30 questions and tasks about Waiheke.  Knowledge about our natural, social, cultural, and historical heritage, as well as Googling skills, the Waiheke community library, Waihekepedia, and plain old on-the-street research will all come in handy to those who take up the challenge.  Questions will vary in difficulty, and it is not expected that the winner will have answered them all.  Several wild-card prizes will be given in addition to the grand prize donated by Cable Bay Vineyards ["http://www.cablebayvineyards.co.nz"].

The questionnaire will be released at 10:00 on Saturday morning, 29 September.  It will be available at the Ostend market, the library, the Waiheke Historical Museum, and the Woolworths/Placemakers shopping centre, as well as online at http://www.waihekemuseum.org.nz.  The completed questionnaire must be handed into the Museum by 4:00 on Sunday the 30th.  A finish line party and sausage sizzle will begin at 3:00, with announcement of the winners expected by 4:30.  Contestants must be present at the Museum to win.
 
  
The sausage sizzle will feature meat donated by the Village Butchery in Oneroa and buns provided by the European Bakery in Ostend, and therefore will be of a high quality.  Prizes to be awarded at the sausage sizzle have all been donated by numerous island businesses.

The Great Waiheke Heritage Scavenger Hunt

The Waiheke Island Historical Society held the first annual Great Waiheke Island Heritage Scavenger Hunt on 29-30 September 2007. Those who missed the questionnaire, or who would just like to check the answers, can view it here.

Saturday 20 October (Labour weekend) 2007

Coastal run/walk from Onetangi beach to Matiatia Bay on Waiheke Island. This is a rewarding coastal course that takes in 18 bays in 18k of beach, walkway and quiet island roads.

New this year 10k event from Oneroa Beach to Matiatia Bay. Finishing at Matiatia by the ferry terminal, the event is set up to be easy and convenient for people coming over from Auckland for the day.

18k race - walkers start at 10am, Runners start at 11am from Onetangi Beach opposite the end of Fourth Avenue.

10k race - walkers start at 10am and runners start at 11am from the steps at the eastern end of Oneroa Beach
