Clean Stream Waiheke, owned and operated by the community-driven Waste Resource Trust, has been responsible for waste management on Waiheke Island for 10 years. Clean Stream managed the kerbside refuse and recycling collection, as well as managing the Waiheke Transfer Station.

In a controversial decision in June 2009 the Aaron Bhatnagar chaired City Development Committee voted to disqualify Clean Stream from the tender process ending a 13 year contribution to Waiheke waste reduction.
