Waiheke Wind Power
Charles Hayward and others were instrumental in early investigations of the potential for Wind generated power for Waiheke. Since Charles setup the Waiheke Island Sustainable Energy (WISE) website, others have continued the dialogue. A google group WISE2009 was setup in January 2007 and has been moderately active in sharing ideas and alerting the group to new technology that is coming available.
Some of the discussion has focused around the benefits of micro power generation and the added resilience that many small and diverse generating systems (serving individual homes or small groups of homes) could provide to local energy generation.
Tidal generation is also being investigated, on small and large scale.
