Waiheke Island Historical Society

The Waiheke Island Historical Society will hold its October membership meeting on Monday, 8 October 2007, at 7:00 PM at the Waiheke Island Historic Village and Museum, 165 Onetangi Straight.

The topic will be Social Capital, Organisations, and Waiheke, and will feature Michael Trick as guest speaker. Mike is a professor of operations research at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; he is spending this year on Waiheke while he teaches at the University of Auckland.

"Social capital" is the value of human interactions in a society, and is the glue that holds the society together. It has been steadily eroding in modern times; is Waiheke immune from that trend? Come find out...

More information may be had at the Historical Society website.
