Rocky Bay resident Nobilangelo Ceramalus (pronounced noble-arn-jillo kerra-mar-liss) was elected to the Waiheke Community Board in 2007. In 2008 Nobilangelo organised a petition to request the Local Government Commission to transfer the Hauraki Gulf islands and Great Barrier Island (excluding Rangitoto) from the administration of Auckland City Council and its Regional Council, Auckland Regional Council, to that of Thames-Coromandel District Council and its Regional Council, Environment Waikato.
