Artworks Theatre is not simply a performing arts theatre; it is a community-owned, volunteer-run, multi-purpose venue which is able to be claimed as "home" for a variety of Waiheke groups. The Snug is a relaxed and intimate venue with couches and comfortable seating for up to 20 people, and is ideal for poetry recitals, book clubs, study groups, club meetings, etc. The Auditorium (includes the stage) may be hired separately for larger group activities and performing arts, or may be hired along with the Snug for exclusive use.

The Theatre has a licensed Café and EFTPOS facilities available for special events.

Regular Events:

  • Sunday Circus (7pm most Sundays; on summer break until Feb08)
  • Folk Music Club (7pm 1st Wed of each month; on summer break until Feb08)

Upcoming Special Events:

  • An Evening @ Artworks: An open evening showcasing what Artworks Theatre is all about — celebrating the performing arts. A variety of sets from various performance genres will be punctuated with information about the vision for the future of the Theatre and how the new incorporated society will help to manifest that vision. There is still room for a few more performances (3-5 minutes long or so — no longer than 10min). We would welcome songs, skits, dances, musicians, poetry readings, mime, comedy, martial arts demonstrations, circus acts, prestidigitators... You name it! If you would like to contribute to the performances in some way, please let me know as soon as possible by ringing me on 3456. If you know someone else who might like to be included, please let them know! (7pm, Fri 18Jan).
  • Fine Music and Art at “Right Here, Right Now”. The Embrace Youth trust has selected some of Waiheke’s finest musicians and artists who will donate their time and talent. The musicians will contribute material that will reflect empathy with youth and the way they view the world including challenges and experiences. The concert will engage a variety of solo and collective performances bringing songs to the audience encouraging them to step into the life of youth. Musicians performing include; Sol Harris, Kevin Clark, Mark Somerset, Chris Orange, Peter Forster & Jala Raimon with Sean & Gina Higham & Miles Gillett as “Sponge”, Manuel Kahura, Andy Lewis & Harry Nicklin as “Rattleshack”. They will perform a mix of their own work and covers. Pre-concert nibbles (kindly donated by Waiheke restaurants and cafes) and drinks will be on offer from 6pm in the Theatre foyer to provide the audience the opportunity to make their ‘People's Choice entry’ for the Art Competitions and to have a first glance at the art pieces that will be auctioned on the night. Embrace Youth Trust wants to thank Waiheke's emerging artists for their generous contributions. Artists are Ally Art “Unfolding Within The Circle Of Life”, Karin Weisbach “Commitment” and Anja Zillig “Soul Peace". Tickets are available at Shop the Rock and at the door. You may also contact Jala 372-4246 or Sibylla 372-3133 for info or tickets. (6-9pm, Sat 19 Jan)
