Upcoming Events on Waiheke Island:

March

  • Mondays 7:00-8:00pm until 30Mar: Feldenkrais classes with Judy Oliver. Feldenkrais is an educational system centered on movement, aiming to expand and refine the use of the self through awareness. It is intended for those who wish to improve their movement repertoire (dancers, musicians, artists), as well as those wishing to reduce pain or limitations in movement, and many who want to improve their general well-being and personal development. Because it uses movement as the primary vehicle for gaining awareness, it is directly applicable to disorders that arise from restricted or habitually poor movement. Contact Judy on 372-9780 or JudysMove@xtra.co.nz. @ Artworks Community Theatre

April

  • Sa04Apr 8pm: Fagan, Fagan & Kerr: James Fagan & Nancy Kerr, with Kate Fagan (Australia / England). Some folk musicians breed accountants, dental hygienists and knife throwers -- and some breed super folk children. Siblings James and Kate come from Australia's well known folk family the Fagans, growing up with the country's best musicians, festivals and clubs. Then James met Nancy, also hailing from prestigious heritage folk music stock and lo and behold, their duo was formed and has consistently taken on the world folk scene, with impressive musical multi-tasking on fiddle, viola, voice, and guitar-bouzouki. In 2002, they won the BBC Best Folk Duo, and have gone from strength to strength. Kate herself has also forged a stunning solo career for her lyrical songwriting and guitar, and her debut album "Diamond Wheel" won the 2006 National Film & Sound Archive Award for Best Folk Album, just days after its release. Tickets are $20 full / $15 concession pre-paid or $25/$20 at the door. @ Artworks Community Theatre
  • Sa11Apr 8pm / Su12Apr 2pm: The Orderly by the Rebel Alliance: "Hospitals are Battlefields": Enter the fringe world of medieval re-enactment and meet Peter -- orderly during the week, ferocious warrior in the weekend. As he prepares for the weekend's big battle against the notorious Vikings, a friend in need changes his life. Time flickers, empty hospital wards turn into long-forgotten battlefields, and everybody fights for their lives. Inspired by the real life of an Auckland hospital orderly who died in 2003, The Orderly takes you into the very heart of one of life's foot soldiers. The play is written and performed by Michael Downey, who takes on all parts; ranging from the gorgeous nurse, Donna, to a semi nude Viking berserker high on mushrooms and lusting for blood.
