Recent events

31 September: Several ferries were cancelled between Waikeke and Auckland from 10 am in anticipation of a tsunami following an earthquake in Samoa. At one point passengers waiting at the Matiatia terminal were asked to leave the terminal and seek higher ground. No tsunami reached New Zealand, and normal service resumed at 2 pm.

  • Sa17Oct 2:00pm: 'Mental Skills for Wellbeing' is a free talk given by Jerome Hartigan, (Olympic athlete and sport psychologist). Living Waters Church, 92 The Esplanade, Surfdale (entrance next to Seaside Sanctuary). Everybody welcome. There will be an intermission with tea and biscuits provided. This is part of celebrations for Mental Health Awareness Week and is organised by Horizons, Waiheke's Peer Support Group, Creatively and Lovingly Supporting Wellbeing.

  • Tu17Nov, 8:00pm: Martin Pearson LIVE! Martin has been described as the world’s funniest male, long-haired, Victorian, piscean folk singer. Formerly of the act “Martin Pearson”, Martin has risen to fame like a dead pigeon in a water tank. He plays the fool in B sharp and is one of the Australian folk scene’s favourite personalities. A performance can include any of: traditional folk standards and ballads (Martin with his beautiful voice and acoustic guitar); pop and rock classics; swing standards; brilliant, topical parodies on any of these; stand up comedy; or a complete one-man retelling of “The Lord of the Rings” performed as a musical - including an analysis of the differences between the book and film versions.   • Sa21 & Su22Nov, 10am-3pm: Artworks Youth Theatre--first workshop. The second Youth Theatre programme is open to all young people aged 9–14. It involves three weekend workshops on 21–22Nov, 5–6Dec, 12–13Dec plus a 3-week Summer School from 11–29 January 2010. Enrolment fee: $60 for the set of weekend workshops, $200 for the 3-week summer school or $250 If you enrol for both and pay before 13th November 2009.
