Artworks Community Theatre is not simply a performing arts theatre; it is a community-owned, volunteer-run, multi-purpose venue which is able to be claimed as "home" for a variety of Waiheke groups. The Snug is a relaxed and intimate venue with couches and comfortable seating for up to 20 people, and is ideal for poetry recitals, book clubs, study groups, club meetings, etc. The Auditorium (includes the stage) may be hired separately for larger group activities and performing arts, or may be hired along with the Snug for exclusive use.

The Theatre has a licensed Café and EFTPOS facilities available for special events.

We have brought new energy and enthusiasm to the Theatre with an incorporated society as the administrative structure so that many hands can make light work. This ensures the brightest of futures for our wonderful community asset. The Society has been operating the Theatre for a year now and welcomes new members. If you're into performing, children's theatre, lighting, direction/production, set design or construction, sound, front of house, administration, makeup and wardrobe, backstage, special effects, or providing that essential component of performing arts — the audience! — get in touch with your name, edress and phone number, and we'll add you as a Friend of Artworks Theatre. There is no subscription to join the Society, so feel free!

Visit our website at www.ArtworksTheatre.org.nz or, for enquiries about the Theatre, coming events, or to book tickets, email ArtworksTheatre@gmail.com or leave a message on 372-2941.

  • Fr08May 8pm and Sa09May 2pm: Letteracy: "It was called "Flora’s Hairy Chest" – a goat-skin trunk that contained all of our family secrets; a litter of letters, left like worded crumbs to mark the path home." Meet Emily Post, the Queen of letter writing, etiquette, pole dance with a letter box, see the Tsar's slot and play the game you've got mail… A lively interactive piece of storytelling theatre, stamped, sealed and delivered by story-o-phile and frock-o-holic Tanya Batt. "… It’s an hour-long, one-woman, laugh-out-loud, non-embarrassing audience-interaction show. We left feeling decidedly excellent. Yes, there is interaction. No, you are unlikely to feel embarrassed if you are chosen!" Tickets from the Theatre or the Once Upon an Island Story Centre: $20 full / $15 concession (not suitable for young children).
  • Sa09May 8pm: Sika Encore: Sika sold out last year's "Lightning Man" concert, so make sure you get in early this time! Experience the power of the ancient didjeridoo, Native American flute, drums, voice and percussion with internationally acclaimed performer and recording artist Sika. This very unusual concert has stirred up quite a following here in NZ, as well as in the UK, USA and Australia. Tickets from the Theatre: $20 full / $5 child / $45 family.
  • Fr14May-Sa23May: Peter Pan production by the Waiheke Choral Society. Come to see flying children, irrational fairies, psychopathic pirates and a hyperactive, narcissistic, megalomaniacal perpetual child in action on the stage! Come to see Peter Pan! Watch as Captain Hook meets his sticky end in the maw of a ticking crocodile. Everything you ever dreamed it would be — it will touch your heart and chill your bones! Performances will take place from the 15th through the 24th of May, with evening shows on Fridays and Saturdays at 7pm, and matinees on Saturdays and Sundays at 2pm. Ticket prices are $20 for adults, $15 concession, $10 children or $50 for a family. Tickets are available NOW from cast and crew, and at Cut ‘n Curl hairdressers in Oneroa.
