Artworks Community Theatre is not simply a performing arts theatre; it is a community-owned, volunteer-run, multi-purpose venue which is able to be claimed as "home" for a variety of Waiheke groups. The Snug is a relaxed and intimate venue with couches and comfortable seating for up to 20 people, and is ideal for poetry recitals, book clubs, study groups, club meetings, etc. The Auditorium (includes the stage) may be hired separately for larger group activities and performing arts, or may be hired along with the Snug for exclusive use.

The Theatre has a licensed Café and EFTPOS facilities available for special events.

We have brought new energy and enthusiasm to the Theatre with an incorporated society as the administrative structure so that many hands can make light work. This ensures the brightest of futures for our wonderful community asset. The Society has been operating the Theatre since 2008 and always welcomes new members. If you're into performing, children's theatre, lighting, direction/production, set design or construction, sound, front of house, administration, makeup and wardrobe, backstage, special effects, or providing that essential component of performing arts — the audience! — get in touch with your name, edress and phone number, and we'll add you as a Friend of Artworks Theatre. There is no subscription to join the Society, so feel free!

  • Fr13Nov 7pm: Celebration@Artworks: As some people may have already seen, our Community Theatre at Artworks has some rather nice new chairs. Gone are those old, green plastic BBQ chairs — replaced by 120 brand-new padded seats covered in a very fetching dark red fabric. The arrival of the seats marks the end of an 18-month project to upgrade its facilities by the group of volunteers that now runs the theatre. During that period the group has raised over $40,000 to improve the acoustics, purchase a new PA system, install an internal communications system, buy several new stage lights, replace the lighting control system and — finally — to give the audience something softer to sit upon! To celebrate the end of 18 months of hard work, there will be another Evening@Artworks, where a wide variety of entertainers bring their talents and expertise in to entertain all comers. Admission is free to all, and you're invited to bring a plate to share for supper. The doors and café will open at 6:30, with entertainment starting at 7:00. If you'd like to perform a song, dance, reading, mime, skit or whatever, please contact us on 372-2941 or ArtworksTheatre@gmail.com.
